Festivals NT Festival Guide
The Northern Territory is home to an abundance of unique art and cultural festivals. Each year visitors from across Australia and the world are welcomed to celebrate the planet’s oldest living culture.
What The Fox teamed up with Festivals NT, part of the NT Government, to develop a new marketing product to provide domestic and international visitors with a one-stop guide to Aboriginal Arts and Cultural Festival across the Northern Territory. The product took the form of a large fold out map and guide.
From March to September the creativity and beauty of the Northern Territory comes alive with theatre, dance, music, art, sports and cultural experiences – each with their own unique approach to celebrating and showcasing their local culture. There is much diversity amongst this group of festivals, many of which have been running for decades, starting as a small community celebration and growing into a local attraction for visitors and community alike.
Our foxy mission was to create a large map to both act as a marketing tool showcasing the festivals as well as a practical guide to people planning their journey. This project included:
- Consultation and project management between multiple stakeholders
- Working closely with our cartographer to ensure accuracy of map and developing a visual language to describe access to remote areas
- Development of a simple set of symbols to communicate multiple complex details in an easy to follow guide – there was an easy to follow key showing the facilities available at each of the festivals.
Inspired by the rich heritage of Aboriginal culture, the visual design elements are reflective of the land and people of the Northern Territory. With the help of a specialised map expert the locations, facilities and event details are presented beautifully in this go-to guide, showcasing Australian indigenous culture to the world.
